Day 101 -- Recap

Wow! One hundred days of watercolor completed on time and under budget (that last part wasn't really all that difficult since there was no budget)! I  promised that stack of plain white paper would be vanquished and I've kept that promise.
There were many challenges within this challenge, but I persevered. There were weddings, babies (on the way and not mine), computer problems, unfamiliar "equipment," vacations, and work commitments. There were joys and sorrows. There were days when the very last thing I wanted to do was to paint a cute, cheery picture. But in spite of those feelings -- or maybe because of them -- I did just that.
I learned SO much over the course of this challenge, about myself and about watercolor.
Things I Learned About Watercolor:
- Though it can be challenging, watercolor is not out to get me.
- The paper presents more limitations than the paint.
- Building washes is not impossible, it just takes time and patience.
- Watercolor cannot and should not be tamed. One should embrace watercolor with all of its quirks and idiosyncrasies.
- The amount of water in the brush is just as important as the amount of paint.
Things I Learned About Myself (which everyone around me probably already knew):
- I have more patience than I thought.
- I enjoy a challenge.
- I'm stubborn -- no, really, I am.
- When I set a goal for myself, it takes much to dissuade me.
- I enjoy working with watercolor more than I thought I would and I will continue to practice.
This challenge has come to an end, but it will not be my last. In fact, my next adventure begins in just FIVE DAYS when I join in on Inktober. For those unfamiliar, Inktober was started in 2009 by an amazing artist named Jake Parker (Google him, I promise you'll thank me). The challenge is to create an ink-only picture each day in October, post and hashtag it on social media.
For now, I plan to rest and regroup -- and get to bed before midnight! Thank you all for coming along with me. I hope you continue to follow my adventure, or better yet, begin one of your own!
